Blake Wheeler scores with time running out in OT to give Jets 2-1 win over Avalanche

DENVER - Blake Wheeler scored at 4:58 of overtime and the Winnipeg Jets beat the slumping Colorado Avalanche 2-1 on Sunday night.

Al Montoya stopped 32 shots and Andrew Ladd also scored for Winnipeg.

Wheeler won it for the Jets when he shoved the puck past Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov with time ticking down in the extra period.

Varlamov made 35 saves and Nathan MacKinnon scored for Colorado, which has lost four straight — three after regulation.

Ladd gave the Jets a 1-0 lead with 8:18 remaining in the third period. It was his 10th goal of the season.

MacKinnon answered 29 seconds later when his shot went off defenceman Zach Bogosian's skate and past Montoya.

Quote of the Day

I had one really not-good game. I came back to the hotel and he [his father] was on Skype. My mother called first and said, 'Your father wants to talk to you.' So he moved my mother away, and he yelled at me for like 30 seconds. I understood him, and then he said, 'I'm done.' And he was gone. The next game I got my first shutout.
