Canucks' Luongo leaves game with injury
Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo was forced to leave the game Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets with a lower-body injury.

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo was forced to leave the game Sunday night against the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Arena due to a lower-body injury.

Luongo was replaced by Eddie Lack at 16:30 of the opening period.

The Canucks announced via their Twitter account that Luongo was being evaluated by the team's medical staff. Vancouver coach John Tortorella announced after a 2-1 win that Luongo sustained a lower-body injury. He is day-to-day.

"He had a conversation with Bernie (head athletic trainer Mike Burnstein) a shift or two before [he left the game], one of the timeouts, but I didn't know [he was hurt]," Tortorella said. "It surprised me."

Luongo is one of the goaltenders being considered to start for Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He helped Canada win the gold medal in 2010.

The 34-year-old is 16-9-6 with a 2.26 goals-against average and .919 save percentage this season.

Lack made 15 saves Sunday and earned his sixth win of the season. He lowered his GAA to 1.93 and boasts a save percentage of .928.

Vancouver is off until next Sunday, when it will face the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome. If Luongo is unable to play, Tortorella believes the 25-year-old Lack can give the Canucks a chance to win.

"Very confident. I say it every day, he's not afraid of anything," Tortorella said. "He has prepared himself for this situation and he has played very well for us. I'm not sure where Louie's going to go here in the next few days, but if it's Lacker, we are very confident in his play."
