Eriksson stops 21 shots as Comets blank Heat 3-0 for third straight win

UTICA, N.Y. - Joacim Eriksson stopped all 21 shots he faced as the Utica Comets blanked the visiting Abbotsford Heat 3-0 on Friday in American Hockey League action.

Benn Ferriero had a goal and an assist for the Comets (10-15-2), who earned their third win in a row, while Alexandre Grenier and Kellan Lain each scored once.

Sven Baertschi and Ben Hanowski led the Heat (20-9-2) with three shots each on Eriksson and Joni Ortio turned away 20-of-22 shots in defeat.

Lain opened the scoring 5:53 into the first period and Grenier made it 2-0 for Utica at 16:49 with a power-play goal.

After a scoreless second period, Ferriero secured the win for the Comets with an empty-net goal late in the third.

Utica went 1 for 2 on the power play while Abbotsford failed to score on two chances with the man advantage.
