The Chicago Blackhawks recalled goalie Jason LaBarbera from Rockford of the American Hockey League on Thursday. Goalie Kent Simpson was reassigned to the IceHogs.

LaBarbera, 33, was 1-3-0 with a 3.28 goals-against average and .870 save percentage in seven games with the Edmonton Oilers. The Blackhawks acquired him from Edmonton in exchange for future considerations Saturday.

Originally selected in the third round (No. 66) by the New York Rangers in the 1998 NHL Draft, LaBarbera has appeared in 182 NHL games with the Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes and Oilers.

LaBarbera was named AHL Most Valuable Player in 2003-04 and is a two-time winner of the "Baz" Bastein Trophy (2003-04, 2006-07) as the AHL's best goaltender.

Quote of the Day

That was something I've been dreaming of, something I've told myself before the third period I was going to do ... It was an amazing feeling. It's hard to describe. I didn't believe it went in at first but when I saw all the reaction and all the fans going crazy and my teammates going crazy, it's just an unbelievable feeling. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know whether to jump or just skate and do a Theo Fleury. I don't think I'm the same caliber player he is so I couldn't do it.
