Defenseman Morgan Rielly will remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs rather than be released to play for Canada at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The 2014 WJC runs Dec. 26 through Jan. 5 in Malmo, Sweden. Canada held an evaluation camp last week in Toronto and has shifted its pre-tournament work to Sweden.

Rielly, 19, has 10 points and a minus-12 rating in 27 games while averaging 17:58 of ice time per game. However, in his previous 10 games he's played more than 19 minutes eight times, including four of the past five games.

At the 2013 World Junior Championship Rielly had one goal and two assists in six games.
