Blackhawks acquire LaBarbera from Oilers
The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the Edmonton Oilers.

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the Edmonton Oilers for future considerations, the teams announced Saturday.

LaBarbera, 33, has appeared in seven games for the Oilers this season. He was waived by Edmonton on Nov. 18 before being assigned to the American Hockey League. But a recent injury to Ilya Bryzgalov forced the Oilers to call up LaBarbera, who played 39:06 and stopped all 12 shots he faced in relief of Devan Dubnyk on Thursday against the Boston Bruins.

LaBarbera is 60-73-19 in 182 NHL appearances with five different franchises. He was a third-round pick (No. 66) in the 1998 NHL Draft by the New York Rangers.

The Blackhawks are short two of their top three goaltenders because starter Corey Crawford and backup Nikolai Khabibulin are on injured reserve, each with a lower-body injury. Antti Raanta has started the past four games for the Blackhawks and is 5-0-1 in seven games with a 2.12 goals-against average and .926 save percentage in his rookie season.

LaBarbera began the season as Edmonton's backup but was passed on the depth chart first by Richard Bachman then by Bryzgalov when the Oilers signed him as a free agent in early November.
