Veteran forward Mayers announces retirement
Veteran NHL forward Jamal Mayers announced his retirement on Friday after 15 seasons in the League.

Veteran NHL forward Jamal Mayers announced his retirement on Friday after 15 seasons in the League.

Mayers, who has been doing broadcast work for NHL Network this season, last played for the Chicago Blackhawks during their championship 2012-13 season.

"It really has been an amazing experience to have had the chance to play 14 seasons in the NHL, and finish it all off last season as a part of the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup," Mayers said in a statement released through the NHL Players' Association.

Mayers played for five NHL teams over the course of his career and accumulated regular season totals of 90 goals, 219 points and 1,200 penalty minutes in 915 games. He saw action in 63 Stanley Cup Playoff games, with five goals and 13 points.

Mayers broke into the League in 1996-97 with the St. Louis Blues, where he played parts of 10 seasons, before moving on to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks and Blackhawks.
