Axel Blomqvist scores in OT as Victoria blows lead, beats Swift Current 4-3

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Axel Blomqvist scored in overtime as the Victoria Royals held off a Swift Current rally to beat the Broncos 4-3 in the lone Western Hockey League game Thursday.

Blomqvist's goal 3:31 into OT came after the Royals (21-13-1) squandered a 3-0 advantage early in the first period.

Ben Walker, Tyler Soy and Steven Hodges gave Victoria the lead 3:35 into regulation.

But the Broncos (19-12-4) fought back with unanswered goals from Julius Honka, Glenn Gawdin and Jay Merkley.

Royals goalie Patrik Polivka made 29 saves, while Landon Bow stopped 24 shots in net for Swift Current.

Quote of the Day

I came into a team that had 65 points, that was at the bottom of the basement, a team that everybody wrote off as never going to be good. My goal is to go from the very bottom to the very top.
