Kyle MacKinnon glad to get first goals of season and IceCaps a sweep over Crunch

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Kyle MacKinnon scored two goals to lead the St. John's IceCaps over the Syracuse Crunch 5-1 on Wednesday night in American Hockey League action.

Brenden Kichton, Jason Jaffray and Zach Redmond also scored for the IceCaps (14-10-3).

Philip-Michael Devos replied for the Crunch (11-10-3).

Kichton made his way to the net and beat Cedrick Desjardins high blocker with a backhand 12:47 into the game, after he pinched and got the puck in the corner from Eric O'Dell.

At the 2:37 mark of the second period, Redmond carried the puck into the zone and scored a wrist shot high glove while 4-on-4.

Just 23 seconds later, MacKinnon copied Redmond, carrying the puck into the zone and then beating Desjardins high blocker.

MacKinnon added his second goal, 24 seconds into the third, finding a loose puck in front of the net and burying it with a wrist shot.

Devos put the Crunch on the board, scoring a wrist shot high blocker 3:37 into the third period.

With 2:02 left in the game, Jaffray put the puck through a Crunch player's legs, caught it on the other side and wristed the puck home while shorthanded.

Desjardins made 31 saves for the Crunch, while Eddie Pasquale stopped 25 for the IceCaps.
