Calgary Flames honour former captain Jarome Iginla prior to facing his Bruins

CALGARY - Jarome Iginla received an extended standing ovation before the opening faceoff of his first game back in Calgary since his trade.

The Calgary Flames honoured their former captain with a video montage, but Scotiabank Saddledome was on its feet before the tribute.

Iginla was a Flame for 16 seasons and team captain for nine before he agreed to be dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins in March.

He signed with the Boston Bruins as a free agent in the off-season.

Iginla lifted his stick in acknowledgment several times and broke into a wide smile when he heard the familiar chants of "Iggy, Iggy."

Quote of the Day

I think the thing about him, No. 1, he's a competitive guy. We have no issues as far as him fitting in here with this group. No question he's going to be hungry. I think whenever you look at your back end, it's a mix-type thing, and I think [there are] things he can bring to us. He's very mobile, and even though he's not big (6 feet, 201 pounds), he certainly competes. He's a smart player.
