Daily Primer Dec. 4: Canadiens look to sweep Devils

The Montreal Canadiens beat Martin Brodeur two nights ago at Bell Centre to win the front end of a home-and-home series against the New Jersey Devils. They'll be looking at a different goaltender when they take the ice Wednesday at Prudential Center.

Cory Schneider will face the Canadiens for the first time in his career when Montreal comes to Newark. It will be the third start in four games for Schneider, who's coming off a 15-save, 1-0 overtime victory against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

Schneider, who came to the Devils from the Vancouver Canucks in June, has won his past three decisions after an 0-3-2 drought that was primarily due to a lack of offensive support -- New Jersey scored 10 goals in those five games.

Here's a look at all of the action Wednesday:

Montreal Canadiens at New Jersey Devils -- The Canadiens used Carey Price in goal on Monday, but with a game against the archrival Boston Bruins on Thursday, coach Michel Therrien wasn't saying whether Price or backup Peter Budaj will play against the Devils. Montreal made the most of its 17 shots on goal in the win at Bell Centre. The Canadiens may not get a whole lot more in the rematch, as New Jersey has allowed a total of 50 shots in its past three games. Devils center Adam Henrique, who left the game Monday after two periods with a lower-body injury, will be a game-time decision.

Philadelphia Flyers at Detroit Red Wings -- Joe Louis Arena might be the Flyers' least-favorite place to play -- and with good reason. Philadelphia comes into the Wednesday Night Rivalry game (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN) with just one victory in its past 19 regular-season trips to Detroit (1-16-2) since the start of the 1989-90 season. That includes a 5-2 loss Oct. 12, but not a pair of losses in the 1997 Stanley Cup Final. This is the third stop for the Flyers on a six-game trip; they lost 2-0 to the Minnesota Wild on Monday. The Red Wings have plenty of offensive talent, but too much of it won't be available -- Henrik Zetterberg will sit out a couple of weeks in hopes his back heals, joining Pavel Datsyuk (concussion) and Todd Bertuzzi (shoulder) on the sidelines.

Phoenix Coyotes at Calgary Flames -- The Coyotes started their four-game trip with a solid 6-2 victory against the Edmonton Oilers. Six players scored, Mike Ribeiro set up two goals in less than a minute and Mike Smith stopped 31 shots. The Flames have been off since beating the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 in L.A. on Saturday, and they might have captain Mark Giordano back in the lineup. He'll skate Wednesday morning before the Flames decide whether he can play. Giordano has been out since Oct. 21; the Flames are 5-11-2 without him.
