Daily Primer Dec. 2: Flyers, Wild set for rare matchup

Nearly two years have passed since the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota Wild have shared the same sheet of ice, but that will change Monday night.

Philadelphia's second stop on its six-game, 13-day road trip is Xcel Energy Center, where the Flyers will face the Wild (8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CSN-PH) in the first game between the teams since Jan. 17, 2012. The Flyers opened their trip with a 3-2 shootout victory against the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

"It was an ugly win," Flyers captain Claude Giroux told CSNPhilly.com. "I think we know we can play better, we can do better plays out there. But at the end, we got it done. We've just got to move forward and try to get better here."

Here's a closer look at the action Monday:

Winnipeg Jets at New York Rangers -- Winnipeg has won two of its first three games on a six-game road trip that continues Monday in New York. After victories against the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders, the Jets went 0-for-6 on the power play in a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday. Winnipeg is hoping to have forward Evander Kane, who is questionable with a lower-body injury. The Rangers are coming off a 5-2 victory against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday that was highlighted by Chris Kreider's hat trick, his first in the NHL.

New Jersey Devils at Montreal Canadiens -- This is the first of a home-and-home series that continues Wednesday at Prudential Center. The Devils will be seeking their third straight win after victories against the Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres on Friday and Saturday. Cory Schneider faced 15 shots in a 1-0 overtime win against Buffalo. The Canadiens have won five of their past six games. Max Pacioretty had two goals and an assist in a 4-2 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Montreal has allowed two or fewer goals in 10 straight games.

Philadelphia Flyers at Minnesota Wild -- Philadelphia will play the second of its six-game road trip after earning a 3-2 shootout win at Nashville on Saturday. The Flyers were led by Steve Mason, who continued his resurgence with a 34-save performance that did not include his perfect outing in the shootout. Minnesota rallied to get a point Saturday when it suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to the Colorado Avalanche. The Wild trailed 2-0 late before getting goals from Matt Cooke and Mikko Koivu; the tying goal was scored in the final seconds of regulation.

St. Louis Blues at Los Angeles Kings -- It's the first time these teams will face each other since the 2013 Western Conference Quarterfinals, when Los Angeles rallied from a 2-0 series deficit to eliminate the Blues in six games. The Blues will be looking to bounce back from a 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Friday, marking the second time in November they allowed three or more goals in a game. The Kings had their 11-game point streak (7-0-4) snapped Saturday when Calgary Flames forward Mike Cammalleri broke a 1-1 tie with 23 seconds left in regulation at Staples Center.
