Maple Leafs sign Gauthier to entry level contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday signed forward Frederik Gauthier to a three-year entry level contract.

The Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday signed forward Frederik Gauthier to a three-year entry level contract.

The Maple Leafs' first-round pick (No. 21) in the 2013 NHL Draft, the 18-year-old Gauthier has 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) and a plus-5 rating in 23 games for the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Gauthier also represented Team QMJHL this month against Russia in the 2013 Subway Super Series on Nov. 18 and 20.

Gauthier had 60 points (22 goals, 38 assists), fourth among QMJHL rookies, with 26 penalty minutes and a plus-22 rating last season with Rimouski. He also helped Canada earn a gold medal at the 2013 Under-18 World Championship in Russia with a goal and three assists in seven games.

Gauthier has 81 points (27 goals, 54 assists) and is a plus-27 in 85 career games with Rimouski.
