Montreal Canadiens agree to contract extension with assistant general manager Rick Dudley

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Montreal Canadiens assistant general manager Rick Dudley has agreed to a multi-year contract extension, spurning an invitation to speak with the Buffalo Sabres about their open general manager position.

Dudley spoke with reporters ahead of the Canadiens game against the Sabres on Wednesday night and said he was flattered by Buffalo's interest, but dedicated to continuing his work in Montreal.

The Sabres had contacted Montreal about interviewing Dudley to fill their general manager role, which has been vacant since Buffalo fired Darcy Regier on Nov. 13.

Dudley played for the Sabres from 1972-1976 and was the franchise's head coach from 1989-1992. He served as the general manager of the Atlanta Thrashers in 2010.
