Ducks put Beauchemin on injured reserve
Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin, who sustained an upper-body injury against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, was placed on the injured reserve list Friday.

ANAHEIM -- The Anaheim Ducks placed defenseman Francois Beauchemin on the injured reserve list Friday and recalled defenseman Sami Vatanen from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Beauchemin is eligible to be activated Wednesday, meaning he will miss at least three games. Beauchemin crashed headfirst into the boards Wednesday night against the New Jersey Devils. Coach Bruce Boudreau did not have any further update Friday morning other than to say that Beauchemin was day-to-day.

Beauchemin entered Friday tied for third in the League at plus-15 and is plus-18 in the past 22 games. He was ninth in the NHL with 53 blocked shots.

Vatanen, 22, has one goal and five points in 17 games with the Ducks this season.

Quote of the Day

I mean, hockey had to change the rules because of Marty, and that's impressive. I got two Stanley Cup rings because of the guy. Look at the banners of [Scott Niedermayer, Scott Stevens and Ken Daneyko] and Marty is right up there when you think about the New Jersey Devils; he was part of the core group and he'll go down as one of the greatest goalies ever.
