Semin was injured Saturday during the Hurricanes' 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues on a hit by Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. Semin returned to the ice briefly after the hit, but left the game for good in the second period.
The 29-year-old was out of the lineup Monday against the Boston Bruins.
Semin, who was second on the Hurricanes with 44 points last season, has three goals and six assists in 20 games this season.
I think the thing about him, No. 1, he's a competitive guy. We have no issues as far as him fitting in here with this group. No question he's going to be hungry. I think whenever you look at your back end, it's a mix-type thing, and I think [there are] things he can bring to us. He's very mobile, and even though he's not big (6 feet, 201 pounds), he certainly competes. He's a smart player.
