David Desharnais has only goal in the shootout to give Canadiens 3-2 win over Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio - David Desharnais scored the only goal in the shootout and Peter Budaj stopped all three shots he faced in the tiebreaker to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.

Montreal's regulation goals came from Alex Galchenyuk and Lars Eller, with Budaj registering 23 stops through overtime.

R.J. Umberger and Artem Anisimov had first-period goals for the Blue Jackets. Curtis McElhinney made 38 saves.

The game pitted two teams who have been struggling. The Canadiens had lost five of six (1-3-2), and the Blue Jackets have dropped eight of nine (1-6-2).

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
