WHL Roundup: Surging Broncos win eighth game in a row, defeat Warriors 7-1

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Coda Gordon and Colby Cave each had two goals and two assists as the surging Swift Current Broncos beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-1 in Western Hockey League action Monday.

The Broncos (14-8-1) won their eighth straight game and moved into a tie atop the Eastern Conference at 29 points with Medicine Hat, though the Tigers have played four less games.

Brycen Martin had the winning goal in the first period and added three assists for the Broncos. Julius Honka added a goal and two assists and Connor Sanvido also scored. Brett Lernout and Graham Black had two assists each.

Travis Brown had the lone goal for the Warriros (7-12-4), spoiling Landon Bow's shutout bid at 11:58 of the third period. Bow finished with 25 saves.

Zachary Sawchenko stopped 15 of 18 shots for Moose Jaw before being replaced by Justin Paulic to start the third period. Paulic stopped 10 of 14 shots in relief.

The Broncos converted four of their seven power-play chances, while Moose Jaw went 1 for 7.

Wheat Kings 5 Hurricanes 3

BRANDON, Man. — Richard Nejezchleb scored three goals as the Wheat Kings beat Lethbridge.

Peter Quenneville and Jens Meilleur, into an empty net, also scored for Brandon (10-11-0), while Jordan Papirny made 26 saves.

Kolten Olynek, Jamal Watson and Macoy Erkamps scored for the Hurricanes (2-17-3). Corbin Boes stopped 38 of 42 shots.

Silvertips 4 Giants 3 (OT)

EVERETT, Wash. — Ivan Nikolishin scored 67 seconds into overtime as Everett edged Vancouver 4-3.

Dacry DeRoose scored his first goal of the season for the Silvertips. Joshua Winquist and Carson Stadnyk also scored for Everett (14-3-30, who after a scoreless first period led 2-1 after two.

Dalton Sward, Carter Popoff and Trent Lofthouse replied for Vancouver (8-12-2).

Daniel Cotton turned back 21 shots for Everett, while Payton Lee made 22 saves for Vancouver.

Ice 5 Hitmen 1

CALGARY — Jaedon Descheneau had two power-play goals and an assist in Kootenay's win over Calgary.

Tim Bozon and Rinat Valiev each had a goal and an assist, while Jon Martin rounded out the scoring for the Ice (11-8-2).

Calder Brooks scored for the Hitmen (10-6-4).

Wyatt Hoflin made 29 saves for Kootenay, and Mack Shields stopped 28 shots for Calgary.
