Daily Primer Nov. 10: Oilers face tough end to trip

Little has gone right for the Edmonton Oilers this season. That's why they'd like to end their four-game road trip Sunday with a victory against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

The Oilers fell short again Saturday afternoon, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. They immediately got on a plane and headed for the Windy City, where they will face the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Sunday night.

With four wins in 18 games, the Oilers know they need to turn things around quickly if they're going to attempt to salvage their season.

"If you want to be part of something and build it, then we're going to have to be better as a group," Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said after his team's latest loss.

Here's a look at all of the action Sunday:

New York Islanders at Montreal Canadiens -- The Islanders are 0-3-0 on their four-game road trip, which concludes against the Canadiens at Bell Centre. New York will be without top-line left wing Thomas Vanek, who sustained an upper-body injury on his first shift in a 5-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. The Canadiens begin a two-game homestand after suffering a 4-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.

Nashville Predators at New Jersey Devils -- It's the first meeting between the Predators and Devils since Oct. 15, 2011. The Predators have split six games since losing No. 1 goalie Pekka Rinne to hip surgery, but they're coming off a 5-0 road loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. The Devils have scored four goals in the past four games and continue to try to find ways to generate offense without forward Patrik Elias, who is out with a back injury.

Florida Panthers at New York Rangers -- Panthers interim coach Peter Horachek gets another chance to earn his first win after replacing Kevin Dineen on Friday. Florida fell short in Horachek's debut Saturday, losing 3-2 to the Ottawa Senators. The Rangers have moved into third place in the Metropolitan Division and are seeking their third straight victory.

Edmonton Oilers at Chicago Blackhawks -- After suffering a 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, the Oilers conclude their four-game road trip against the defending Stanley Cup champions. David Perron and Taylor Hall scored for the Oilers in Philadelphia, but it wasn't enough to avoid their 14th loss in 18 games. Chicago also played Saturday, earning a 5-2 win against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. Patrick Sharp had four assists.

San Jose Sharks at Winnipeg Jets -- The Sharks begin a five-game road trip in which they will play the Jets, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Oilers and Blackhawks in an eight-day span. After not allowing more than three regulation goals in 14 straight games, the Sharks have lost four straight and have allowed four goals in regulation in their past two games, a 5-4 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday followed by a 4-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. The Jets will be hoping to build off a 5-0 win against Nashville on Friday that featured a 41-save performance from goalie Ondrej Pavelec, his first shutout of the season. Bryan Little had two goals in the victory.

Washington Capitals at Colorado Avalanche -- Washington gets right back at it after surrendering a two-goal lead late in the third period en route to a 4-3 shootout loss to the Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena on Saturday. The late collapse cost the Capitals what would have been their fifth straight win. Colorado continues to roll; the Avalanche won for the 13th time in 15 games Friday when they earned a 4-2 victory against the Calgary Flames. Jean-Sebastien Giguere improved to 5-0-0. He's allowed five goals in his five starts.

Vancouver Canucks at Anaheim Ducks -- The Canucks will be looking to rebound after a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center on Saturday that saw goalie Roberto Luongo get pulled in the second period. Eddie Lack, who relieved him, is expected to start Sunday. He and his teammates face a tough task as the Ducks have won four straight and sit atop the NHL standings with 29 points. Anaheim is also 7-0-0 at Honda Center.
