COLUMBUS –New York Islanders left wing Thomas Vanek left the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday after a 23-second opening shift in the first period due to an upper-body injury. He did not return.
There was no official update after the game, but Newsday reported Vanek will not be in the lineup Sunday, when the Islanders wrap up their four-game road trip against the Montreal Canadiens. New York dropped to 0-3 on the trip after suffering a 5-2 loss Saturday.
Vanek was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 26 for Matt Moulson, a first-round pick in 2014 and a second-round pick in 2015. Vanek entered Saturday with 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 18 games.
