Chimera would have become an unrestricted free agent in July 2014.

Chimera, 34, has five goals and 11 points in 16 games this season and was named the NHL's "Third Star" for the week ending Nov. 3 after posting a career-high four points (one goal, three assists) Nov. 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers and recording a career-long four game goal-scoring streak from Oct. 24 through Nov. 1.

Chimera has 45 goals, 107 points and 251 penalty minutes in 265 games with Washington. He was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Dec. 28, 2009, in exchange for forward Chris Clark and defenseman Milan Jurcina.

Quote of the Day

Well, for me this one's concerning, the way we performed. Because three games in, playing a desperate team on the road, I was expecting something else than this. Right now, I'm just disappointed. The other games, I thought we did some things that you can build off your game. There wasn't a lot accomplished in tonight's game.
