Daily Primer Nov. 6: Penguins seek fifth straight win

The Pittsburgh Penguins will attempt to win their fifth straight game under the bright lights of Broadway on Wednesday night.

Led by NHL-leading scorer Sidney Crosby (23 points in 15 games), the Penguins bring their four-game winning streak to Madison Square Garden, where they'll face the New York Rangers (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN2, RDS2).

Remarkably, the Penguins have been able to reel off four straight wins without any goals from Evgeni Malkin. The Russian center hasn't scored since Oct. 17, a span of eight games.

"Right now, I just want to help the team win," Malkin told the Penguins' website. "(Draw) penalties against me. If I'm not scoring, I can do different jobs. Of course I want to score, but if the team wins, it's fine."

Here's a look at the action scheduled for Wednesday:

Pittsburgh Penguins at New York Rangers -- Pittsburgh will be playing the second of a three-game road trip. The Penguins opened the trip with a 3-0 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Jeff Zatkoff stopped all 19 shots he faced for his first NHL victory. The Rangers saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Monday, when they suffered a 2-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks at Madison Square Garden. Wednesday's game marks the end of New York's four-game homestand.

Winnipeg Jets at Chicago Blackhawks -- After three straight losses, Winnipeg got back in the win column Monday, when they earned a 4-2 victory against the Detroit Red Wings at MTS Centre. Al Montoya made 26 saves and may have earned himself another start in Chicago, his hometown. The Blackhawks were unable to record their fourth straight win Sunday, when they dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Calgary Flames at United Center. Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist in the loss.

Nashville Predators at Colorado Avalanche -- Nashville will play the third of its seven-game road trip at Pepsi Center. The Predators have earned points in the first two games (1-0-1) and picked up a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. David Legwand broke a 3-3 tie with his second goal of the night at 16:04 of the third period. Colorado (12-1-0) will be seeking its seventh straight win. The Avalanche, who opened a four-game homestand with a 4-1 victory against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, have outscored their opponents 42-19 through 13 games.

Phoenix Coyotes at Anaheim Ducks -- The Coyotes made it five in a row with a 3-2 shootout victory against the Vancouver Canucks at Jobing.com Arena on Tuesday. Anaheim returns home after going 5-2-1 on its eight-game road trip, which concluded with a 2-1 win against the New York Rangers on Monday. The Ducks, who moved atop the Western Conference with the victory, now begin a three-game homestand.
