Malhotra scores OT goal after Jared Staal ties it late in Hurricanes' 2-1 win over Flyers

RALEIGH, N.C. - Manny Malhotra scored 2:40 into overtime, and the Carolina Hurricanes broke a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.

Justin Peters stopped 28 shots and earned his first win of the season while starting his fifth straight game since replacing the injured Cam Ward on Oct. 24.

Scott Hartnell had given Philadelphia a 1-0 lead with 3:58 left in regulation, but Jared Staal tied it with 52.3 seconds remaining to force overtime.

The Flyers, who have lost three of four, have scored more than two goals only once this season in 14 games.

Quote of the Day

You get the right the whistles at the right times, you can leave him out there. He's a beast when it comes to being on the ice. I thought [Saturday] he was a big man. That first period, he did that lateral cut and it was like three bowling pins bounced off him. There's not too many guys that can do that.
