Jets claim defenseman Ellerby off waivers
The Winnipeg Jets have claimed defenseman Keaton Ellerby off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Jets claimed defenseman Keaton Ellerby off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Ellerby, 24, will join a Jets blue line that is missing injured regulars Mark Stuart (hip), Jacob Trouba (neck) and Paul Postma (blood clot). Earlier this week, Winnipeg recalled defensemen Ben Chiarot and Julian Melchiori from the St. John’s IceCaps, their American Hockey League affiliate. Chiarot and Melchiori may make their NHL debuts Saturday when the Jets play the Chicago Blackhawks at MTS Centre.

A 6-foot-5 defenseman, Ellerby had not dressed for the Kings this season after playing 35 games last season. Los Angeles acquired him in 2013 in a trade with the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers chose Ellerby 10th in the 2007 NHL Draft. He has played 160 NHL games and has two goals and 18 assists.
