Ducks send Sbisa to AHL on conditioning assignment
The Anaheim Ducks on Thursday assigned defenseman Luca Sbisa to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League on a long-term injury conditioning loan.

The Anaheim Ducks on Thursday assigned defenseman Luca Sbisa to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League on a long-term injury conditioning loan. They also reassigned center Rickard Rakell to the Admirals.

The move will let Sbisa go to Norfolk without having to go through waivers, though he can't spend more than 14 days with the Admirals. Sbisa, 23, has yet to play an NHL game this season due to an ankle injury sustained during the Ducks' first preseason game.

Sbisa had one goal and eight points in 41 games with the Ducks in 2012-13, his third full season in Anaheim.

Rakell, the Ducks' first-round pick (No. 30) in the 2011 NHL Draft, did not appear in a game during his most recent recall on Oct. 28 and was scoreless in four games with Anaheim in 2012-13. The 20-year-old center has four goals and five points in nine games with Norfolk this season.

Quote of the Day

What we expected is what we got. Very mature young individual that's focused. He is on the right track. He's not only a great hockey individual, but he's a good person off the ice. He seemed to take a leadership role with this group right off the hop and ran away with it, and was vocal, was respectful, was everything it takes to be a Panther. His future looks bright.
