The Phoenix Coyotes recalled defenseman Brandon Gormley from the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League on Thursday and assigned forward Tim Kennedy to Portland.
Gormley was tied for second on the Pirates in scoring with five points, all assists, in seven games. He appeared in 68 games with the Pirates in 2012-13, his first full professional season, and had five goals, 24 assists, 29 points and 44 penalty minutes.
The Coyotes selected Gormley with the 13th pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.
Kennedy, 27, had three assists in six games with Phoenix and has 13 goals, 34 points and 56 penalty minutes in 131 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers, San Jose Sharks and the Coyotes. He was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the sixth round (No. 181) of the 2005 NHL Draft.
