Senators hire former TFC vice-president Beirne for front-office job

OTTAWA - Former Toronto FC vice-president of business operations Paul Beirne joined the Ottawa Senators as the executive vice-president of ticketing.

The 47-year-old Beirne was the Major League Soccer franchise's first employee, and had worked with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment since 1994. He was named the MLS executive of the year in 2007 after Toronto FC's launch was a huge success off the field.

"Paul brings to us a wealth of experience and has a consistent track record of success," Senators president Cyril Leeder said in a statement. "He will assume control over all aspects of our ticketing sales, including season-seats, group sales and casual sales and is the right person to provide the direction that will allow us to achieve our ticket sales objectives."

The Senators also announced the promotion of Geoff Publow to vice-president of strategic development.

Beirne's departure from Toronto FC was latest in a string of MLSE moves since president and CEO Tim Leiweke took the reins.

Toronto FC president and Kevin Payne was fired last month, with Tim Bezbatchenko taking over as GM. MLSE revamped its senior management in July and COO Tom Anselmi stepped down in September.
