Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne will be out about two weeks after he was hit in the mouth by a stick during the team's 3-2 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.

Selanne lost several teeth and needed 40 stitches to close cuts around his upper mouth after he was hit in the face by Luke Schenn's stick 1:49 into the third period. Selanne traveled with the team to Boston after the game Tuesday, but the team announced Selanne will return to California later Wednesday for oral surgery.

The injury occurred when Selanne and teammate Emerson Etem were chasing Schenn into the corner in the Philadelphia end. As Schenn attempted to avoid Etem's check, Schenn lost control of his stick, which hit Selanne in the upper mouth.

Selanne remained down on the ice for several moments but was able to skate off with help from teammates. He did not return to the game.

No penalty was called on the play.

In 11 games this season, the 43-year-old has three goals and four assists.

Quote of the Day

It is really special. I had a lot of friends and family here tonight, and for my first [NHL] game in here it was great. I played here as an elementary-school player in the city championships and this was my first time back. It was a lot of fun..
