PHILADELPHIA -- Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne lost teeth and sustained cuts in his mouth when he was hit in the face by a high stick at 1:49 of the third period of the Ducks' game Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Selanne was chasing the puck into the corner in the Flyers defensive zone alongside teammate Emerson Etem and the Flyers' Luke Schenn. As Schenn attempted to avoid Etem's hit, he lost control of his stick and it hit Selanne in the face.
Selanne remained on the ice for several moments, but he was able to skate off with help from teammates. He did not return to the game.
No penalty was called on the play.
Selanne was still with doctors after the game and was unavailable to speak to the media. There was no word on if Selanne would miss time; the Ducks next play Thursday at the Boston Bruins.
The Ducks rallied from a two-goal first-period deficit to beat the Flyers 3-2.
