RALEIGH, N.C. -- Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi will be out indefinitely with a broken ankle that will require surgery.
Scuderi left the Penguins' game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday with what was described as a lower-body injury. He returned to Pittsburgh for an examination by team doctors on Monday.
Scuderi had played in 276 consecutive games before breaking his ankle. He had one assist and was a plus-5 in 11 games.
The Penguins won their first game without Scuderi on Monday, a 3-1 road win against the Carolina Hurricanes.
