TORONTO - Defenseman Rob Scuderi left the Pittsburgh Penguins' game against the Toronto Maple Leafs late in the first period with a lower-body injury and did not return.

With 16.8 seconds remaining the period, Scuderi was checked by Maple Leafs forward David Clarkson along the boards. Scuderi dropped to the ice and needed assistance to get off the ice and to the dressing room. He was not on the bench at the start of the second period and did not return to the game, a 4-1 victory by the Maple Leafs.

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said there was no definitive news on the lower-body injury and that Scuderi would be evaluated back in Pittsburgh.
