Brodeur to be back in goal for Devils on Saturday
New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will make his fifth start of the season Saturday against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden, coach Peter DeBoer said Friday.

New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will make his fifth start of the season Saturday against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden, coach Peter DeBoer said Friday.

It will be Brodeur's first start in four games. He has been the backup to Cory Schneider the past three games. Brodeur last played Oct. 17, when he allowed four goals on 22 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Brodeur is 0-2-2 with a 3.40 goals-against average and .865 save percentage in four games.

Schneider had perhaps his worst outing since joining the Devils this season Thursday in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Schneider's giveaway off a dump-in in the first period led to a goal by Ryan Kesler and his misjudged bank attempt off the back boards in the second led to a goal by Daniel Sedin. Each  gaffe came with the Devils trying to protect a one-goal lead. Schneider blamed himself for the loss.

"For me personally, I expect more of myself and when my team plays like that you've got to respond and pull your weight," Schneider said. "We were challenged a little bit before this game and everyone really stepped up and I didn't really rise to the challenge there in the first two periods."

DeBoer told reporters Friday he is confident Schneider will bounce back when called upon.

"I think there's no doubt he probably wanted a couple of those back," DeBoer told The (Bergen) Record. "He also made a couple big saves at key times too. So my message to him is he shouldn't beat himself up too badly.

"I think you get to know this guy and I'm sure today he's probably forgotten about it and moved on, like we have."

DeBoer also said defenseman Bryce Salvador will not be available Saturday against the Bruins and will remain home following a death in his family earlier this week. Salvador missed the loss Thursday against the Canucks.

Quote of the Day

(The tribute) was great, brought back a lot of memories. I felt I wanted to give them the thank you they deserved. I understand the booing and it was expected. They are great fans.
