ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding left his team's game Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes after the second period with a lower-body injury.

Harding was slow to get up several times but finished the middle period. Niklas Backstrom, who hadn't played since going down with a knee injury on Oct. 8, took over at the start of the third period and completed the 3-1 victory by stopping all seven shots he faced.

Wild coach Mike Yeo did not have an update on Harding's condition after the game.

Harding stopped 20 of the 21 shots faced through 40 minutes. He entered the evening as the NHL's leader in goals-against average and save percentage.

Harding was the second goalie to leave the game due to injury. Carolina's Cam Ward was injured in the first period and will miss 3-4 weeks with a lower-body injury. Justin Peters, who took Ward's place, stopped 19 of 21 shots.
