Avalanche to go back to Giguere again vs. Penguins
Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy announced Sunday that veteran goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere will start Monday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy announced Sunday that veteran goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere will start Monday night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN2, RDS2) instead of Semyon Varlamov.

Varlamov won his first five decisions before a 4-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, posting a 1.68 goals-against average and .950 save percentage. According to Denver Post beat writer Adrian Dater, Roy said he wants to give Varlamov some additional rest leading up to home games coming up against the Carolina Hurricanes and Winnipeg Jets.

Giguere has won both his starts, a shutout of the Boston Bruins in his season debut and a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres in Colorado's most recent game Saturday.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
