Daily Primer Oct. 20: Ducks try to extend streak
Sunday, October 20 features three NHL games, headlined by the Anaheim Ducks trying to extend their winning streak as they take on the Dallas Stars.

The Anaheim Ducks are hitting the road after they host the Dallas Stars on Sunday. They'd like to take a seven-game winning streak with them.

The Ducks were routed 6-1 by the Colorado Avalanche in their season opener, but they haven't lost since. Anaheim's 3-2 shootout victory against the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday night was their sixth win in a row, and their fourth in as many games during their first homestand of the season.

After hosting Dallas, the Ducks play their next eight on the road; they don't return to Honda Center until they host Phoenix on Nov. 6.

Here's a look at Sunday's action:

Vancouver Canucks at Columbus Blue Jackets -- The Canucks are 2-0-1 on a seven-game trip after losing 4-3 in a shootout to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Roberto Luongo started for the eighth time in nine games this season, and backup Eddie Lack is likely to get the call against the struggling Blue Jackets. Columbus comes home after being drilled 4-1 by the Washington Capitals on Saturday night, extending its losing streak to four games during which the Blue Jackets have scored six goals.

Nashville Predators at Winnipeg Jets -- Both teams have outstanding rookie defensemen, but only the Predators will have theirs in the lineup at MTS Centre. Winnipeg is without Jacob Trouba, who was injured when he went headfirst into the end boards during Friday night's 4-3 shootout win against the St. Louis Blues. He has a sprained neck and will be out at least two weeks. Nashville's Seth Jones scored his first NHL game-winner Saturday night when he beat Carey Price to give the Predators a 2-1 victory against the Montreal Canadiens.

Dallas Stars at Anaheim Ducks -- The Stars come to Orange County after starting their weekend in Southern California with a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Dallas is 7-3-1 in its past 11 against the Ducks. Anaheim is without goaltender Viktor Fasth, who's out with a lower-body injury, but Jonas Hiller has excelled in his absence. Hiller is 4-0-0 with a 1.45 goals-against average and .954 save percentage this season. The Ducks are keeping the heat on opposing goaltender; they're second in the League in average shots per game at 36.3.

Quote of the Day

It's cool when you think about how many great American players have played the game and the two players that were at that 18-game point streak and what they've done in their careers. It's pretty cool right now, but it was kind of overshadowed by the loss.
