Adam has three points, Lieuwen stops 36 as Americans down Marlies 4-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Luke Adam scored once and set up two more as the Rochester Americans downed the visiting Toronto Marlies 4-1 on Friday in American Hockey League play.

Phil Varone and Matt Ellis had a goal and an assist apiece for the Americans (2-2-0) while Dan Catenacci scored the other.

Wade MacLeod scored the lone goal for the Marlies (3-1-0).

Rochester's Nathan Lieuwen made 36 saves for the win as Garret Sparks turned away 19-of-23 shots in defeat.

Catenacci opened the scoring just nine seconds into the game and Adam made it 2-0 Rochester before the first period was through.

MacLeod cut the Americans' lead in half late in the second period, but Ellis and Varone scored three minutes apart midway through the third period to break the game open.

Rochester went 1 for 4 on the power play while Toronto failed to score on six chances with the man advantage.

Quote of the Day

We want to make sure that whoever makes our team really makes our team by earning it and not putting them in situations where they get preference because of their status as a first-round pick or whatever it might be. That's not going to happen. Everybody has to earn their way on our team.
