Coyotes send Yip to AHL
The Phoenix Coyotes on Monday assigned forward Brandon Yip to the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Portland Pirates. The Arizona Republic reports the move creates room on the active roster for veteran center Jeff Halpern, who agreed to a one-year, two-way contract Saturday.

Yip had been called up Friday, but was a healthy scratch Friday against the Philadelphia Flyers and Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The 28-year-old forward signed with the Coyotes as a free agent, but has yet to get into a game with them. He also has yet to play in the AHL this season.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
