OHL Roundup: Rupert brothers combine for 3 goals and 7 points as Knights down Bulls

LONDON, Ont. - Ryan and Matt Rupert combined for three goals and seven points on Friday as the London Knights defeated the visiting Belleville Bulls 6-1 in Ontario Hockey League action.

Ryan Rupert, who was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2012 NHL Draft, scored once and added three assists while brother Matt Rupert had two goals and an assist.

Jake Patterson made 43 saves for his first victory of the season.

Bo Horvat recorded a goal and two assists for the Knights (7-1-0), who have won five games in a row, while Mitchell Marner and Alex Basso rounded out London's offence.

Remi Elie scored the lone goal for the Bulls (1-6-2), who are winless in five outings.

Charlie Graham took the loss after giving up five goals on 39 shots through the first two periods of play. Jason Da Silva replaced Graham to start the third period and stopped 11-of-12 shots in relief.

Belleville came out strong, putting up 17 shots in the opening period, and Elie found the back of the net at 15:58. However London responded in the second period with five goals of its own on 26 shots.

Matt Rupert scored back-to-back goals to open the period and Ryan Rupert made it 3-1 Knights at 15:58.

Marner scored 18 seconds after Ryan Rupert's goal and Basso added another at 18:19 to make it 5-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Horvat scored at 5:13 of the third period.

London went 1 for 3 on the power play while Belleville failed to score on six chances with the man advantage.

Frontenacs 10 Wolves 1

KINGSTON, Ont. — Sam Bennett and Slater Doggett each scored twice as the Frontenacs crushed Sudbury.

Loren Ulett scored a goal and two assists for Kingston (7-0-1) while Ryan Kujawinksi, Roland McKeown, Sam Povorozniouk, Dylan DiPerna and Corey Pawley had the others.

Jacob Harris scored the lone goal for the Wolves (3-2-3).

Matt Mahalak made 29 saves for the win. Franky Palazzese took the loss after giving up four goals on 13 shots in just nine minutes of action. Troy Timpano replaced Palazzese and stopped 18-of-24 shots in relief.

Petes 2 Battalion 1

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Michael Clarke scored the winner on the power play midway through the third period as Peterborough edged the Battalion.

Chase Hatcher also scored for the Petes (5-3-1) while Nelson Armstrong set up both goals.

Nick Paul scored the lone goal for North Bay (5-5-0).

Michael Guigovaz made 23 saves for the win as Jake Smith stopped 17 shots in defeat.

Sting 3 Spitfires 2

SARNIA, Ont. — Nikolay Goldobin and Anthony DeAngelo scored in the third period as the Sting came from behind to defeat Windsor.

Brian Moore had a goal and an assist for Sarnia (2-6-1).

Slater Koekkoek and Josh Ho-Sang scored for the Spitfires (4-4-0) while Kerby Rychel had two assists.

Brodie Barrick earned the win, and the game's first star, by stopping 42 shots. Jordan DeKort made 23 saves in a losing cause.

Greyhounds 3 Whalers 2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Tyler Gaudet had a goal and an assist as the Greyhounds slipped past Plymouth.

Jorgen Karterud and Jean Dupuy also scored for Sault Ste. Marie (5-1-1).

Zach Lorentz and Alex Peters scored for the Whalers (3-6-0) while Lorentz tacked on an assist for a two-point outing.

Matt Murray made 16 saves for the win. Alex Nedeljkovic took the loss after giving up three goals on 14 shots. Zack Bowman replaced Nedljkovic and stopped all 12 shots he faced in 29 minutes of relief.

Otters 4 Rangers 0

KITCHENER, Ont. — Connor McDavid scored once and set up two more and Oscar Dansk stopped 35 shots as Erie shutout the Rangers.

Andre Burakovsky scored twice for the Otters (5-2-1), Dane Fox had a goal and an assist while Connor Brown chipped in three asissts.

Tyson Teichmann made 24 saves for Kitchener (3-3-0).

Spirit 5 Steelheads 3

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Andrey Alexeev had a hat trick as Saginaw downed the Steelheads.

Dylan Sadowy scored twice for the Spirit (4-4-1) while Eric Locke and Justin Kea chipped in two assists each.

Dylan Smoskowitz scored two goals for Mississauga (4-4-0) and Brett Foy had the other.

Jake Paterson made 37 saves for the win as Dawson Carty stopped 39-of-43 shots in defeat.

OTTAWA — Scott Kosmachuk scored twice as Guelph defeated the 67's.

Matt Finn, Robby Fabbri and Pius Suter also scored for the Storm (5-2-0) as Brock McGinn added two assists.

Brendan Bell supplied the scoring for Ottawa (4-5-0).

Justin Nichols made 34 saves for the win while Philippe Trudeau turned away 41 shots in a losing cause.

OSHAWA, Ont. — Ken Appleby stopped 30 shots as the Generals beat Barrie.

Cole Cassells and Scott Laughton had a goal and an assist each for Oshawa (7-2-0).

Erik Bradford scored for the Colts (3-4-1) while Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves in defeat.
