Red Wings activate Gustavsson, re-assign Mrazek
The Detroit Red Wings have activated goaltender Jonas Gustavsson from injured reserve and assigned Petr Mrazek and Cory Emmerton to the AHL.

The Detroit Red Wings have activated goaltender Jonas Gustavsson off injured reserve.

The Red Wings also assigned goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Cory Emmerton to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.

Gustavsson is expected to be the backup to starter Jimmy Howard, but he hasn't played this season after suffering a groin injury during the preseason. He was 2-2-1 in seven appearances last season.

Howard has started all four games this season for the Red Wings, who are 2-2-0 following their 4-2 home loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

Emmerton, who has played in 125 games with the Red Wings over four seasons, had one assist in four games this season.

Quote of the Day

I have been blessed to play for 16 years in the NHL; it has been an amazing ride. I would like to thank the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers organizations and owners for providing me the opportunity to play the sport I love for so many years. I could have never played for so long or accomplished all that I have without the unwavering love and support from my wife, Heather, our three sons, Ryan, Lucas, and Mason, and my parents.

— Martin St. Louis after announcing his retirement from the NHL on Thursday
