Is Sergei Fedorov about to resume his professional hockey career?

According to Sovietsky Sport in Russia and Yahoo's Puck Daddy blog, the 43-year-old will play Friday for CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League against Mettalurg Magnitogorsk.

It would be Fedorov's first game since retiring following the 2011-12 season, when he was Magnitogorsk's captain. Fedorov has been general manager of CSKA since 2012.

Fedorov spent 18 seasons in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals. He was a part of three Stanley Cup championships with the Red Wings (1997, 1998, 2002), won the Hart Trophy in 1994 and was a two-time Selke Trophy winner (1994, 1996).

He returned to the KHL following the 2008-09 season, and played from 2009-2012 with Magnitogorsk. In his final season, he had six goals and 22 points in 43 regular-season games, and four points in 10 playoff games.

Quote of the Day

I think I'm lucky to be here and you definitely don't take very many things for granted, if you take anything for granted. I definitely put my family and my wife and my close family in perspective, that they're the most important thing in the world. I want to do whatever I can to play hockey, but like I said, under the right circumstances.
