Hertl scores 2 goals in Sharks' 4-1 victory over Coyotes

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Tomas Hertl scored his first two NHL goals and the San Jose Sharks beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 on Saturday night.

Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who were able to convert two power plays after not scoring on the man advantage against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Coyotes, who won their opener at home on Thursday.

Antti Niemi stopped 22 shots for the victory. Mike Smith made 47 saves for Phoenix.

Quote of the Day

It's pretty crazy, but believe me when I say we didn't draft these players with the mindset we had to because they had good hockey-playing dads. It just turned out that way. But we're certainly glad they're a part of our organization.

— Arizona Coyotes director of amateur scouting Tim Bernhardt regarding the coincidence that six of the organization's top prospects are sons of former NHL players
