The Winnipeg Jets on Thursday signed 2013 first-round draft pick Joshua Morrissey to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The contract has an average annual value of $1.425 million per season, but will not start until after Morrissey plays his 10th NHL game. He will spend the 2013-14 season with his junior team, the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.

The 6-foot, 186-pound defenseman, taken with the 13th pick of the draft, had 15 goals and 47 points with Prince Albert last season.

Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
