Flyers sign Gill to one-year contract
Philadelphia Flyers sign Hal Gill to one-year contract.

The Philadelphia Flyers added a veteran presence to their defense corps Tuesday, signing Hal Gill to a one-year contract.

Gill, 38, attended training camp with the team on a professional tryout. He recorded two assists in three preseason games.

"I'm happy to be part of this team because I think it's a team that has a shot to win and that's what you want," he said following practice Tuesday. "You want a chance to be playing in June and that's what I’m looking forward to.

Gill, who won a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, played in 32 games last season with the Nashville Predators. He was an eighth-round pick (No. 207) of the Boston Bruins in the 1993 NHL Draft.

In 1,102 regular-season NHL games with the Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Penguins, Montreal Canadiens and Predators, Gill has 36 goals, 184 points and 960 penalty minutes. He's added six assists in 110 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Quote of the Day

He's, believe it or not, actually one of my favorite guys, and I've ended up trading him twice. I appreciate what he's done. He was one year away from being an unrestricted free agent, and I felt with this opportunity, that it was a chance that we were able to get somebody for him in Nick Bonino and Adam Clendening.
