Devils sign Damien Brunner after tryout agreement with free-agent forward

NEWARK, N.J. - The New Jersey Devils have signed Damien Brunner after reaching a professional tryout agreement with the free agent forward earlier this month.

Terms of the deal with the 27-year-old Brunner reached Tuesday aren't being released by the team. After joining the Devils on a tryout basis on Sept. 16, Brunner has two assists in two NHL preseason games.

In 44 games last season with Detroit, Brunner had 12 goals and 14 assists. He added a team-leading five goals and four assists in 14 post-season contests.

Before joining the Red Wings, Brunner played in the Swiss National League for seven seasons from 2006-07 through 2012-13.

He represented Switzerland at the 2010 and 2012 World Championships, and had a team-leading seven points last year.

Quote of the Day

It's about enjoying the moment. It's pretty cool to get that many people together and that excited about hockey to the point they really want you to mess up. They've got a ton of red jerseys and you have to sit back and appreciate people love hockey that much and you are the one out there who gets to play the game. Just try and stick with that respect for the game and also the mentality that for me it's just about entering the fight and seeing how long I can stay in it.
