Maple Leafs' Kessel faces hearing Tuesday
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel will have a telephone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Tuesday for an incident during a preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday night.

Toronto Maple Leafs right wing Phil Kessel will have a telephone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Tuesday for an incident during a preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday night at Air Canada Centre.

At 10:01 of the third period, Kessel was assessed a match penalty for his actions in an incident with Buffalo Sabres left wing John Scott.

Scott was assessed a fighting major, an instigator minor, a 10-minute misconduct and a game misconduct for his actions on the play.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline against Kessel: Slashing. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

Toronto won the game, 5-3.
