Chad Johnson makes 18 saves, Carl Soderberg scores twice as Bruins top Red Wings in preseason

DETROIT - Chad Johnson made18 saves and Carl Soderberg scored both goals to lead the Boston Bruins over the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 in a preseason game Saturday night.

Boston (3-1-0) continued its strong exhibition season after coming up short in the Stanley Cup finals last season, losing in six games to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Jonas Gustavsson stopped 12 shots for Detroit (2-2-0) in the first two periods. Petr Mrazek made seven saves in the third.

Soderberg opened the scoring with 1:04 left in the second period when he put a loose puck in from the bottom of the left circle for his first goal of the preseason. His second came on the power play off a rebound in front of the net only 41 seconds into the third.

Quote of the Day

I spent a long summer thinking about that playoff series and what could have been. [The Blackhawks] ended up being the Stanley Cup champions, so we know we lost to a very good team. It's tough to know how close we were, and it motivates us for this year.
