Predators' Rinne doing more as camp nears
Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne, who's coming off hip surgery in May, has progressed to taking shots at an information team practice Monday.

The best sight at the Nashville Predators' informal skate Monday was goaltender Pekka Rinne dropping to his knees to make saves.

Rinne had hip surgery May 9. He was cleared last Thursday "to do a little bit more," according to coach Barry Trotz.

"This last week was the first time I was taking shots, and on my knees, moving laterally and stuff like that," Rinne told Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean. "Obviously I need to get more repeats, a lot more ice time, but I’m feeling good, and that’s the main thing."

The Predators begin training camp Wednesday with team meetings and testing, then hit the ice Thursday. Rinne said there's no timetable for returning to game action after the preseason starts Sept. 16.

"[It's] up to my hip," he said.

Rinne's teammates didn’t sense any issues when they were on the ice ripping shots in his direction.

"He has been chomping at the bit, waiting to get cleared, and now I think he’s excited," captain Shea Weber told the newspaper. "If he gets cleared, obviously he's good to go. The doctors are the professionals, and if they were worried about him, they wouldn't be letting him do that stuff."
