Chicoutimi gets first overall pick Nicolas Roy from Cape Breton for pack of picks

MONTREAL - Nicolas Roy, the first-overall pick in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey league draft, has been traded to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens for a package of draft picks, the team announced Friday.

The 16-year-old Roy was selected by Cape Breton, but refused to report to the Screaming Eagles because he insisted on finishing high school in his home province. The Amos, Que., native demanded a trade to a team in Quebec.

Cape Breton received first round picks in 2014, 2015 and 2016 from Chicoutimi, and got the fifth-overall pick and the last pick of the second round in 2014 from the league as compensation.

The six-foot-three Roy, a right winger, had 15 goals and 18 assists in 27 games for the midget triple-A Amos Forestiers last season.
