Toronto Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment COO resigns.

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. on Friday announced the resignation of chief operating officer Tom Anselmi effective Sept. 13.

"I am from this community, and I'm a huge fan of our teams, so being part of the growth of this organization into one that is admired in the industry has been a real privilege," Anselmi said. "I'm very proud of our people and all that we've been able to accomplish. I'm also excited about the next chapter of my career and wish the organization and our fans all the best for the coming season."

Anselmi joined the organization in December 1996 and was responsible for the overall development of Air Canada Centre. He was appointed COO in 2004.

"The entire organization, including our ownership group, is grateful to Tom for his many contributions to the success of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment over the years," said Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.

Quote of the Day

You don't see many. The [Drew] Doughtys, the [P.K.] Subbans, those are guys that create offense from the back and then on top of that ability, the size that he has. In the West you play against some pretty big players, and being able to clear the crease and contain the [Ryan] Getzlafs and the [Corey] Perrys and [Anze] Kopitars and players like that, we're excited about him going back there.
