Jagr headlines Czech Republic Olympic candidate list
New Jersey Devils right wing Jaromir Jagr once again headlines the list of candidates being considered to play for the Czech Republic in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

New Jersey Devils right wing Jaromir Jagr again headlines the list of candidates being considered to play for the Czech Republic in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Jagr, who could be heading to his fifth Olympics, is among 67 players on the list revealed by Czech Republic coach Alois Hadamczik, according to a story on IIHF.com. Twenty players on the list were part of the Czech team that lost in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Thirty-six players on the list have an NHL contract.

Jagr has played in all four Olympics that have included NHL players. He had five points in six games for the Czech team that won gold in Nagano in 1998 and seven points in eight games to help his country win the bronze medal in Turin in 2006.

Forward Patrik Elias, Jagr's teammate in New Jersey, is on the list and could be headed to his fourth straight Olympics. The same goes for defenseman Tomas Kaberle, who was bought out by the Montreal Canadiens over the summer and reportedly is close to signing a contract with a club in Europe.

San Jose Sharks forward Martin Havlat, Devils defenseman Marek Zidlicky, Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun, Washington Capitals forward Martin Erat and unrestricted free agent defenseman  Filip Kuba are in line to play in their third Olympics.

Zidlicky, Vokoun, Erat and Kuba were part of the Czech teams in 2006 and 2010. Havlat played in the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics and again in 2010. He was injured and unable to play in 2006.

Goalie Ondrej Pavelec (Winnipeg Jets) along with forwards David Krejci (Boston Bruins), Tomas Fleischmann (Florida Panthers), Milan Michalek (Ottawa Senators) and Tomas Plekanec (Montreal Canadiens), and defensemen Jan Hejda (Colorado Avalanche), Zbynek Michalek (Phoenix Coyotes) and Roman Polak (St. Louis Blues) played on the 2010 Olympic team and are on the list as candidates for 2014.
